Poet Grace Cavalieri Projects Herself Into Her Latest Famous Womannew
In her latest book of poems, Anna Nicole, the poems are delivered from the imagined perspective of Anna Nicole Smith, the tabloid celebrity known for her Playboy spreads, her marriage to a millionaire 63 years her senior, and for her own TV reality show. So it's appropriate that the book's cover is a deliberately garish painting that gives the pin-up model magenta hair and green eyes.

Max Ochs Still Works and Sings For Social Justicenew

Black: The Color of the GOPnew
I've always known that, contrary to popular belief, the African-American community is very conservative, but it's really starting to dawn on me that I'm surrounded by people who would probably be Republicans if they weren't black. And, frankly, I wish the GOP would get its stuff together so that my brethren and sistern can just follow their hearts and join.

Vegan Tuesday: Going Animal-Product-Free, One Day at a Timenew

When I decided earlier this year to attempt to become a vegan, I started out with realistic goals. Rather than set myself up for failure by overhauling my kitchen completely, I decided to designate one day a week as a meatless, dairy-free day.

Reclaiming Pumpkins as Food Rather Than Decorationsnew
It's hard to think of those massive, nutrient-filled orbs as anything more than decoration, but now that Halloween is over and Thanksgiving's a-comin', it's pumpkin eatin' season, and I'm a-hankerin' for some pie! And apostrophes!

Why was I, a 42-year-old husband and father of two young daughters, a senior employee of Johns Hopkins, a freelance journalist, and a law-abiding, civic-minded guy, sitting in my piss-soaked underwear in the back of a paddy wagon outside the Northern District police station?

Despite Little Competition, Baltimore's Congressmen are Flush with Cashnew
The incumbents, all Democrats -- U.S. representatives Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, and Elijah Cummings -- are household names in the Baltimore area and won easy primaries in February. Their opponents have hardly any name recognition and even less money to buy traction with voters. Nonetheless, the incumbents' formidable fundraising operations haven't missed a beat.
