Medical Necessities: What's So Terrible About Rationing Health Care?new
I agree that the rich should pay more to support the health care of those who have less. But taxes won't cover it all. There will be rationing. Indeed, there should be rationing -- also known as rational choosing between interventions that are needed and those that are only wanted; those that justify the risks and costs and those that don't.

Hypocrisy 101: The Vetting of Judge Sonia Sotomayornew

Does Republican US Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have cotton in his brains? I was listening to the Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Sonia Sotomayor and was gobsmacked to hear Graham's "lecture" about the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms.

In McCain's World, Women Aren't Equalnew
Sure, Republican presidential nominee John McCain chose working mom Sarah Palin as his running mate to help him persuade women that their fortunes would rise in his administration. But how's that working out in reality?

Beyond the Palinnew
Palin -- who has absolutely no substance to her platform other than beliefs that divide and suppress women -- doesn't deserve to hold the office of vice president. She doesn't deserve to benefit from the feminist movement she denigrates.

How McCain's Health Care Plan Would Penalize Womennew
The Planned Parenthood and the Center for American Progress report that if McCain's plan is implemented, "more than 30 million women with employer-sponsored health insurance who suffer from a chronic condition could lose their coverage, find it harder to obtain coverage, or have to purchase supplemental insurance to cover their chronic condition."

Sarah Palin Can Run on Her Record, Proudlynew

As a Working Mother of a Child with Down Syndrome, Sarah Palin Makes Me Sicknew

Palin is shamelessly using her personal life to sell her candidacy in a way that's reminiscent of just one other politician I can think of -- and that's John McCain. But at least in McCain's case, he's his own pawn, vis-a-vis his POW story. Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig are their mother's pawns.

Sexism on a Stick: Conventions Prove that Women are the New Blacknew
I've had a blast watching how both Republicans and Democrats come together and act like they really give a rat's ass about the status of women in this country. I'm at a loss as to which party's ploy is more cynical: Barack Obama and his adoption of the "equal pay for equal work" mantra or John McCain and his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Sarah Palin is John McCain's Latest Albatrossnew

Simply putting a "lady" on the ticket isn't going to garner energized woman voters when that lady opposes so much of what the women's movement has struggled for.

Election '08: What We're Learning About Race, Age and Gendernew
How could it be that after a 2008 primary season that is historic in so many ways, that all of the racial, gender and age stereotypes and barriers that appeared to have been broken still remain issues going into the November general election and beyond?
