Grover Norquist Draws the Linenew
There have always been libertarian and authoritarian strains within the Republican Party. Both are very different, and sometimes they're even incompatible.

Sen. Marco Rubio's foreign policy is Wilsonian, not conservativenew
During what was advertised as a "major foreign policy speech" at the Brookings Institution last Wednesday, Sen. Marco Rubio said, "I am always cautious about generalizations, but until very recently, the general perception was that American conservatism believed in a robust and muscular foreign policy."

Why get involved in politics when nothing ever seems to change?new
My sanest friends are usually those who spend their time far away from the world of politics. Their main concerns are their wives or husbands, girlfriends or boyfriends, kids, family, and everything but the ongoing mischief in Washington. I think this is quite normal. Some talk radio hosts and conservative pundits constantly criticize Americans who aren't politically engaged. Not me. In fact, I often feel like joining them.

The GOP attacked Clinton for cheating, but they've given Newt a free passnew
I have always been primarily policy oriented in my politics. The most boring candidate imaginable has my support so long as he is right on the issues and the most charismatic politician imaginable is worthless to me if he does not support the right things. Much of my writing is dedicated to showing my fellow conservatives where their beliefs and behaviors regarding the principles of limited government are inconsistent or lacking. I believe conservatism must be about more than simply rooting for your favorite team.

I fear those who fear Iran more than I fear Iran itselfnew
Everyone from U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to the 2012 GOP presidential candidates now seems to be preparing for war with Iran. Iran, we are told, might be, could be, may be thinking about developing nuclear weapons. Iranian leaders say they are not. Our leaders say they are lying. The number of shady characters on both sides guarantees that someone is lying.

Government's Power to Arrest Citizens Without Due process a New Lownew
Since 9/11, Sen. Lindsey Graham has said repeatedly that we must fight the terrorists "over there" so we don't have to fight them "over here." But last week, Graham threw this all out the window. We are now at war everywhere. Forever.

Ending Government Largesse Always Top Priority for Conservativesnew
Conservatism is a negative philosophy. I don't mean "negative" in that it proposes something undesirable, but negative in that it has always sought to negate the more objectionable aspects of the human condition. Man has a propensity for evil. This means that men must be restrained in some fashion, which is precisely why conservatives have typically stressed religion, conventional morality, humility, etc.

Foreign Intervention Can Create More Problems Than it Solvesnew
The current U.S. foreign policy is a disaster. For many Americans, this sounds harsh. Yet, it is something most of us can admit after examining our most recent foreign interventions individually.

A Decade After 9/11, Our Government Continues to Make Things Worsenew
A primary tenet of conservatism is that government action or inaction affects human behavior. If taxes are raised, the economy worsens. If taxes are lowered, the economy improves. If guns are prohibited, crime rates rise. If gun ownership is legal, crime lessens.

The GOP's fever for war will destroy any hope of shrinking governmentnew
Why is it that during the last decade, when Republicans controlled all three branches of government, the national debt still exploded? Why is it that the last time a real conservative sat in the White House -- Ronald Reagan -- government grew astronomically?
