Charleston Ballet Theatre Accused of Using Works Without Permissionnew

The Charleston Ballet Theatre is celebrating the launch of its 25th season, a major milestone for a company that's struggled with budget cuts in recent years. They're touting a shining silver anniversary season and a fresh new home in Mt. Pleasant, yet out of the public eye, the company has been dealing with claims of improper use of copyrighted material by international choreographers Eddy Toussaint and Jiri Kylian.

Ross Kressel Scandal at CofC Mirrored Reality TVnew

While it’s true that student government at the College of Charleston is not usually a televised verbal slugfest, it followed a pattern over the last week that any casual fan of Big Brother or Survivor would recognize — and on Tuesday night, cameras were rolling. In the Senate, as on the island, variations on one phrase kept popping up: "I didn't come here to make friends."

Corruption of a Chicken Farmernew

There's no way around the fact that if you eat meat, you have blood on your hands. When I worked on a farm, the long afternoons spent slaughtering chickens helped shape my belief that all meat eaters should, at least once, kill and butcher an animal. It's the only way to really comprehend what you're eating.

It's the Summer of Rieslingnew

Sommeliers love riesling. The white grape is grown mostly in Germany and Austria as well as Australia and Oregon and might be one of the most misunderstood. Yes, riesling can be sweet, but it can also be complex, dry, and racy, a perfect wine for a hot summer, one that goes well with spicy, fatty foods.

The Story Behind Mary Edna Fraser’s Aerial-Inspired Batiksnew

Flying runs in the family for environmental artist Mary Edna Fraser. Her brother, father, and grandfather are all pilots, and she sometimes takes the family's 1946 Ercoupe airplane on a quest for inspiration. Up in the air, she finds her position and relinquishes the controls so that she can fully concentrate on photographing the landscape below. Of the 500 or so shots she takes, she chooses just one that will inspire a new piece of art.

Is Good Radio Winning?new

I got into commercial radio in late 2002. I was the last generation of radio people that could walk in the door, get a job from the ground up, and learn every department. Then the world changed, and we as an industry were not ready for it. More so, we didn't accept it.

The Library's setting is definitely worth experiencing. But with better places around town in the same expensive price range, it's hard to justify making the Library a regular fine-dining spot.
