Three VVM Publications Pick Up Maggie Awards

Three Village Voice Media publications came out as winners in the Western Publishing Association's Maggie Awards:
Managing editor Amy Silverman and staff writer Paul Rubin of Phoenix New Times were honored for "Shadow Dwellers," a series of reports about dramatic cuts in mental-health services in the Tucson area leading up to Jared Lee Loughner's shooting spree at a local shopping center. Houston Press editor Margaret Downing took first place in editorial writing for "Mistaken Identities," which detailed the difficulties faced by Sikhs in the State of Texas. Finally, LA Weekly was named Best Consumer Tabloid for general excellence.
