BOSTON, MA (January 12, 2006) - PRESS RELEASE

Boston's Weekly Dig, the area's fastest growing weekly paper, has hired highly-respected veteran food writer Ruth Tobias as its new Lifestyle Editor. Tobias, whose work has appeared in the Boston Globe, Improper Bostonian, STUFF@Night, the Boston Phoenix, Zagat and Gayot, will lend an air of seasoned professionalism to a staff otherwise full of incorrigible and amateurish rowdies, handling the Dig's popular Food + Drink and What It Is sections.

"This is a big departure for us," Dig editor Joe Keohane was overheard saying in a bar several blocks from his office. "We've never hired someone with actual experience before. Myself included. But Ruth's enormously knowledgeable of the local scene, has a lot of great ideas and fits in well with the staff. We're really excited."

"Ditto," added publisher Chris Rohland.

Tobias was undergoing routine indoctrination and could not be reached for comment, but Keohane says she plans to continue improving the quality of food reviews and hone the focus of What It Is, the paper's lifestyle pages, as well as playing an active role in helping steer the paper as it continues to grow at its present, alarming rate.
