Happytown: The World's Best Bodypaintersnew
Yes, indeedy, we are the champions -- or more accurately, we are the home of the champions, twin brothers Brian and Nick Wolfe, who just won a gold medal in the "brush/sponge" division at the World Bodypainting Festival in Seeboden, Austria. The brothers Wolfe beat teams from 38 other countries to claim the trophy and the 2,000-euro cash prize that came with it.

Election '08: Point: All Is Won. Counterpoint: No It Isn'tnew
Four years ago in this space, Weekly editor Bob Whitby and I penned columns on the meaning of the 2004 election, in which progressives and Democrats took a drubbing from George W. Bush and his minions. I foresaw a dystopian future of Republican rule. Whitby prognosticated a different vision, one in which the chickens of GOP excess and incompetence would come home to roost.

Happytown: The Come Out With Pride 2008 Packetnew
As much as we love broad strokes and low-hanging fruit around here -- along with expletives in lieu of real words -- even we weren't sure what to make of the thick packet we were issued by Come Out With Pride 2008 in advance of this past weekend's queer festivities.

Want to send your kid to school with a healthy salad you picked up from a deli? Maybe a brownie from your neighbor's bake sale? Too bad, hippie. Your "food" has no place in the public schools.

Happytown: What Happens When Knights Get Angry?new
A group of jockish University of Central Florida Knights fans have recently taken offense to the city's paper of record, the Orlando Sentinel, with regard to its handling of the death of wide receiver Ereck Plancher. You may recall the paper’s "coach won't talk to us!" martyrdom and laugh a little.

A website, brought to you by Portland, Ore.'s Planned Parenthood of Columbia-Willamette, is called Take Care Down There (www.takecaredownthere.org), and it's all about sex ed. It's direct, forthright and pretty damn funny. Plus it gives kids valuable info, like how to use a condom and the fact that oral sex can transmit disease.

Lou Pearlman Reveals His Get-Out-of-Prison Plannew
When U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp handed Pearlman a 25-year sentence in May, Sharp also handed Pearlman "the keys to your jail cell." For every $1 million Pearlman came up with in restitution to his victims, Pearlman's sentence would be reduced by one month. He's in for 300 months. He's on the hook to the government for $200 million.

Screw China!new
The reason I'm going China-free this holiday season is Wal-Mart. The mega-retailer's relentless, cutthroat push to the bottom is killing our economy like a two-pack-a-day habit. Wal-Mart gets approximately 97 percent of the junk they sell from China, so buying there is un-American.

Kabul is a starkly different city than the flourishing, cosmopolitan center it once was. Osman’s film mixes childish cartoons with man-on-the-street footage to powerful effect.
