Nine Seats Up for Election on the AAN Board

Nine seats on the AAN Board of Directors will be up for election this year at the association's annual meeting in Tucson. Prior to the election, bylaw amendments will be introduced that could impact the nature of at least two of the seats. (FULL STORY)

Convention Early Registration Deadline is Friday

Be sure to register for the 32nd annual AAN Convention by the end of the day on Friday, May 22 to obtain the early registration rate. The discounted rate for members is $325 per person, and for non-members it's $425. On May 23, rates will increase by $50 per person. Click here.

Village Voice Editor: Industry Woes are a 'Business Model Crisis'

At a panel discussion earlier this month at the 92nd Street Y in New York, Tony Ortega talked about web publishing and the print media industry, along with Voice publisher Michael Cohen, Gothamist publisher Jake Dobkin and Alana Taylor of Mashable.com. While noting that, like most papers, the Voice is struggling to do more with less right now, Ortega says the product isn't the problem. "Newspapers have never been more popular in their history," he says. "It's just that our advertisers have no money to spend."

Google to Host Webinar, Participate in AAN Convention

Google has agreed to sponsor the opening night cocktail reception at this year's convention, and will also be making presentations focusing on both its ad-server software Ad Manager, and its ad network AdSense. The Ad Manager presentation will be a follow-up to an exclusive webinar for AAN members led by senior ad serving consultant Mark Wolly. All AAN member publishers and senior managers will receive email invitations to the webinar, which is scheduled for April 23, and there is no limit to the number of people at each company who can participate. More Than 1,000 Entries Submitted for 2009 AltWeekly Awards

Eighty-six alt-weeklies submitted 1038 entries for consideration in the 2009 AltWeekly Awards contest. The entries were spread over 21 categories, and, as expected, the total number of entries was down from 2008, by about 25 percent. Finalists for this year's contest will be announced in mid-May, and winners will be crowned at the AltWeekly Awards luncheon, to be held on Friday, June 26 during the 32nd annual AAN Convention in Tucson.
