Phoenix Media Announces Sale of Boston Radio Station to Clear Channel

Phoenix Media/Communications Group is selling 101.7 WFNX Boston to Clear Channel pending FCC approval.

In a memo to staff, publisher Stephen Mindich writes, "Despite its celebrated history ... for some time it has been difficult to sustain the station -- especially since the start of the Great Recession."

Weekly Dig music & arts editor Hilary Hughes: "I'm upset about a local independent radio station like WFNX being sold to a national conglomerate like Clear Channel."
