Monterey County Weekly: Looking Good at 20
Monterey County Weekly celebrates an historic milestone of local and independent journalism with a showcase retrospective issue. On the streets Oct. 9, the 20th Anniversary edition of Monterey County Weekly takes a long backwards glance at the people, the institutions, the buildings, the parties and the natural disasters that have helped shape the community since Coast Weekly (Monterey County Weekly's original name) first hit the streets in the fall of 1988.

The 20th anniversary edition checks in at a record 200 pages and features the Weekly's first ever glossy cover and is saddle stitched and trimmed to a magazine format. "The community support has been fantastic for this issue," said Weekly founder and CEO Bradley Zeve, "in much the same way it has been for the last twenty years."

In addition to the political reporting, food writing, movie reviews and the comprehensive calendar that have made the Weekly a must-read for Monterey County for the last 20 years, this week's issue features guest commentaries from a couple dozen community leaders who indulge in their chance to get a byline in the Weekly.

Publisher Erik Cushman said of first 20 years of Monterey County Weekly: "It's a good start."

Monterey County Weekly is the big fish in a beautiful pond.
