Michael Tomasky: Village Voice Scores 'Headline of the Day'new

The Voice's blog post on the result of yesterday's special election for the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy -- titled "Scott Brown Wins Mass. Race, Giving GOP 41-59 Majority in the Senate" -- was singled out by The Guardian's Michael Tomasky as the headline of the day. "Someone put their witty cap on today over there at the Village Voice," he writes.

Pittsburgh City Paper Launches CPtv on its Website

The alt-weekly's new web channel will feature a video feed of "Lynn Cullen Live," a popular local radio talk show it began hosting in August. CPtv will also feature video clips from news stories and promotional videos. (FULL STORY)

Early Registration & Hotel Deadlines for Web Conference Approaching

The deadline for early registration at this year's Web Publishing Conference is Monday, Jan. 11. To take advantage of savings of $50 per person, be sure to register (via this link) before Jan. 12 rolls around. Monday is also the deadline for the special AAN rate ($120 per room) at San Francisco's Argonaut Hotel, where the conference will be held. 2010 Membership Applications Now Available

The application deadline for newspapers to apply for AAN membership is Feb. 5, 2010. You can download an application here, or contact AAN to have one mailed to you. After a rigorous vetting process, the Membership Committee will issue its recommendations prior to July's convention in Toronto, where all members will have the chance to vote on the applicants. Web Publishing Conference Programming Shapes Up

Although we're still nailing down some final details, much of the programming for this winter's Web Conference at San Francisco's Argonaut Hotel has been finalized.
