Village Voice Classified Ad Sets Film Plot in Motion

We missed the news of the feature film WTC View when it was released in 2005, but this month Logo is airing the movie, which uses a Voice classified ad as plot springboard, so we figured we'd let you know about it. "[The] film is about a young gay man who places an ad in the Village Voice for a roommate the night before September 11," according to the Los Angeles Times' synopsis. "In the coming weeks, he desperately interviews potential roomies to share his pad that has -- you guessed it -- a WTC view."

Craigslist Sued For Trademark Infringement Based On Listingnew
First Call Properties, a Texas real estate company, has sued Craigslist for trademark infringement based on ads posted by users in what Online Media Daily says "appears to be a first." The company alleges that shortly after it began placing ads on Craigslist, rival AAA Apartment Locating began posting Craigslist ads using the phrases "first call," "call first," and "call us first" in a deliberate attempt to confuse consumers. First Call claims that Craigslist knew that AAA was using the First Call trademark and failed to stop the ads from appearing.

Membership Committee Recommends Two Papers for Admission to AAN
Of the five newspapers that applied for AAN membership this year, the Membership Committee is recommending that two be voted into the association: See Magazine and Inland Empire Weekly. The committee is also recommending that six current members who've experienced ownership changes be reaffirmed. AAN members will vote on these applications, as well as other matters, at Saturday afternoon's Annual Meeting. In addition, the Membership Committee is recommending that AAN take a look at allowing only-online publications to join the association. UPDATE (3:17 PM EST): The membership committee's report as originally uploaded was incorrect when it said that See's owner, Great West Newspapers, was "the largest" media chain in Canada. It's a large company, but not the largest in the country. The document in the resource library has been updated with the correct information.
