Village Voice Media Holdings
has earned the 2010 James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism for its series, "
Amongst U.S.," a group project that appeared across VVM's fourteen publications last year:
Some 20 stories published in the course of 2010 etched the dangers Latino immigrants face and the contributions they have made to American society. For the communities where they appeared, the pieces counter racially tinged suspiciousness of immigrants and move toward a powerful case for coherent immigration law reform.
Longtime
Village Voice reporter Wayne Barrett, "whose near 40 years of holding New York politicians to account has marked a singularly distinguished career," will also receive a special award in a ceremony to be held March 30 in New York.
