Longtime NUVO Managing Editor Jim Poyser Departs
Long time managing editor of NUVO, Jim Poyser, is leaving to become executive director of Earth Charter Indiana. Poyser, who started his tenure at NUVO as a freelancer in 1994, was named Arts Editor in 1996 before taking over the managing editor position at the turn of the millennia.

“Over the years,” explained Poyser, “I’ve gotten increasingly involved in environmental concerns, so when this opportunity came up I just had to seize it.”

Poyser’s long career at NUVO includes his role as editor for Indiana Living Green, purchased by NUVO Publisher/Editor Kevin McKinney two years ago.

“Kevin buying ILG put my interests in the environment and sustainability into hyperdrive,” said Poyser, adding, “Earth Charter is the next level of my commitment to improving our relationship with nature.”

Kevin McKinney views Poyser’s departure as “a boon for the earth, but initially for Indiana,” adding, “Jim's kindness, intelligence and fierce concern for all living things was instrumental in making NUVO what it is today. His legacy at NUVO will continue through the culture he helped create and through our future partnerships with Earth Charter Indiana.”

ECI board president, Rosemary Spalding, said, “Jim’s becoming Executive Director of Earth Charter Indiana comes at a perfect time. We recently adopted a new strategic plan and a new initiative – Our Children’s Trust -- that reflects our commitment to become an even more active and positive agent for change in Indiana. The Earth Charter provides the guiding principles and with his energy, dedication, vision and leadership, Jim will help provide the roadmap as we begin this new leg in our journey.”

John Gibson, who heads up ECI’s Sustainable Indiana 2016 initiative, said Poyser “is a perfect fit for job. His experience and personal strengths add substantial skills and energy to the ECI leadership team."

“I loved my time at NUVO and Indiana Living Green,” Poyser said. “I had the best job in the city. I was in the center of all that was happening. Now I have the best job in the state.”
