Greetings from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN) headquarters in Washington, D.C.
As the year wraps up, we'd like to thank you for your continued commitment to quality, local journalism.
We'd also like to thank you for your commitment to AAN. We've tried hard to expand our services to members and continually illustrate our commitment to the future of the alternative news industry with free speech initiatives,
story-sharing projects, diversity programs, and the
AAN Next Generation Fund which supports the development of future journalists and journalism managers in alternative newsmedia.
The
AAN Board of Directors launched the new scholarship program last year, and more than 20 journalists from papers across the U.S. and Canada were able to attend our annual convention and learn important skills to take back to their newsrooms. In a time when the world of media is changing at a dizzying pace, it is is essential that the alternative newsmedia keep charging forward — speaking truth to power, being the watchdog for democracy, and telling the important stories that are often forgotten or ignored.
We'll continue the program in 2013, and you can help us make it successful with your tax-deductible charitable contribution to the AAN Foundation. These scholarships give the next generation of writers, editors, web producers and business managers the necessary tools to keep changing the world and staying committed to the local communities they live and work within.

Now, more than ever, AAN needs your support to carry out its mission, serve its members, and promote alternative journalism.
Happy Holidays,
AAN
