'Silk' is Pretty, Vacantnew
I don't want to give the impression that the film's a complete waste of time, because it's not; the fantastic scenery and well-crafted details had me glued to the screen most of the time -- when I wasn't rolling my eyes in exasperation.

Innovative Documentary Puts a Human Face on Iraq Warnew
José Antonio Gutierrez was a blip on the media radar, the first U.S. soldier to be killed in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The film looks at Gutierrez's life rather than create an anti-Bush screed.

Milos Forman Returns to Form with 'Goya's Ghosts'new
For the director of such classics as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus, Milos Forman fell off pretty hard in recent years with The People vs. Larry Flynt and Man in the Moon.

300 Guns and a Babynew
Don't be fooled by the overblown, leather-clad machismo, profusion of violence or terrible one-liners -- once you realize that Shoot 'Em Up is not taking itself too seriously, it gets much better, giving Clive Owen license to engage in all manner of absurd gun-slinging with an infant in his backpack.

'Ten Canoes': A Tale Well Toldnew
There was some worry near the beginning that the film would lurch toward a sort of distanced National Geographic-style anthropological framing of other cultures, but one is quickly drawn into a compelling story full of realized and engaging characters.

'The Nanny Diaries': More Adventures in Babysittingnew
Like The Devil Wears Prada, Diaries never does much more than indulge its audience’s happy willingness to feel superior to rich people, but that’s not to say that it doesn't have some fun doing it.

'War': Violent Vendettanew
Those expecting the full-on martial arts thriller may be disappointed -- instead, we get a revenge-fuelled action movie that stays within the confines of its cliche-ridden genre, but it does so with impeccable style.

'The Last Legion': A Poor Excuse for an Adventure Movienew
This thing is a lousy, embarrassing all-around swords-and-sandals flick that resembles more an episode of that '90s Sinbad TV show than anything that should be respectably called a motion picture.
