Position Available at The Inlander
Posted September 30, 2020
Type of Position: Permanent Part-Time
The Inlander — the weekly paper of the Inland Northwest, headquartered in Spokane, Washington — is seeking a part-time remote COPY EDITOR. Qualified candidates will have an eagle eye for typos, errors, inconsistencies in formatting and AP style and will be skilled at doing basic fact-checking on deadline. Ideal applicants will have a background in copy editing for a professional news outlet and/or solid experience as a working reporter. An editing test is required. The schedule includes some set times and some flexibility and candidates would ideally work 18-20 hours a week; however, we would entertain applicants available as little as 13-15 hours a week. Candidates must be able to dedicate the whole of Monday to editing and have some flexibility during the rest of the week to flex up or down depending on the production needs of the paper or its related publications. What a week might look like: • Monday is critical with a set schedule of 7 or 8 hours (9 or 10 am to 5 pm PST). • Tuesday could be an off day or, if available, involve editing 9 am-11 am. • Wednesday could be an off day or, if available, 2 hours of editing in the afternoon or evening. • Thursday, ideally, would involve 2-4 hours. • Friday, ideally, would involve 2-4 hours. Pay: $14-$17/hour, DOE Apply: Send a résumé, cover letter and your five best work samples to Editor Jacob Fries at jacobf@inlander.com. Put “copy editor" in the subject line. NO PHONE CALLS.
