Boulder Weekly Editor Up for Prestigious Fiction Award
(Houston, TX) — Boulder Weekly editor Pamela White is a finalist for the 2007 RITA Award for fiction she writes under the name Pamela Clare. Her March 2006 novel Surrender was named a finalist for the prestigious RITA Award, the highest honor in the romance novel industry.

The RITA Award is sponsored and presented by Romance Writers of America and is the highest award of excellence in the romance novel industry. The award itself is a golden statuette, but the industry-wide prestige and affirmation that come with winning a RITA are the real prizes.

Romance Writers of America is a professional trade association for aspiring and published romance fiction authors, with more than 9,500 members nationwide, who are major contributors to the publishing industry with book sales totaling more than $1.2 billion dollars a year.

White has been writing fiction as Pamela Clare for three years and has six published novels, including historical romances and contemporary romantic suspense. Surrender, published by Leisure Books, is part of a historical trilogy set in pre-Revolutionary Colonial upstate New York during the French and Indian War. The story focuses on three Scottish immigrant brothers fighting as Rangers during the war.

Her popular Investigative Team (I-Team) series, published by Penguin Books under the Berkley Sensation imprint focuses on a group of investigative journalists and draws from her years of experience in the newsroom. Her 2005 release Extreme Exposure was an honorable mention for the Daphne du Maurier Award for Best Romantic Suspense novel.

White, who has written a column on women's issues for 15 years, was drawn to a career romantic fiction because she believes they are inherently feminist and empower women by creating a space for women to explore different ways of approaching their lives, relationships and their own sexuality.

The RITA Award Ceremony is the final event of RWA's 27th Annual National Conference, and will be held in Dallas, Texas, on July 14.
