Web Editor

Position Available at Arkansas Times
Posted June 25, 2019
Type of Position: Permanent Full-Time
The Arkansas Times seeks a web editor to manage its dynamic online properties. Candidates should be highly organized, mission-driven and collaborative. They should have at least two years of writing and editing experience and pride themselves on always staying up to date on the latest web trends and technologies.

The Times has long been at the forefront of online news in our market and among alternative newsmedia. We were early to embrace daily web news (our Arkansas Blog has been the leading source for political news and analysis since 2004), video (we do a daily newscast), podcasts (Arkansas Times Week in Review, which debuted in 2012, is the longest running podcast in the state) and reader revenue (we launched a metered paywall in 2013).

The Times is also the rare small media operation with a director of digital strategy in a senior management position. The web editor will work closely with the digital strategist, editor and our outstanding team of reporters to continue to grow our digital audience. Duties will include managing and editing freelancers, optimizing content, social promotion and reporting. We’re looking for someone to whom strategic, innovative thinking comes naturally, who obsesses over how to better reach our diverse readers.

Candidates should believe that journalism matters. The Times is looking for someone to advance our local coverage of news, politics, arts and culture, food and drink and niche topics that are ignored by other media. The Times prides itself in advocating for progressive values and marginalized communities in a state that’s long been controlled by politicians who oppose or ignore them.
