New York Press Publishes Its Annual "50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers" Issue

Mayor Michael Bloomberg takes top honor
New York City -- March 30, 2005 -- New York Press’ third annual “50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers” issue hits the streets today, taking 50 well-aimed shots at some of New York City’s most famous names in sports, media, politics and the arts. Since March, 2003, New York Press has pulled no punches in describing the loathsomeness of public figures from Tina Brown (#34 in 2003) to Rudy Giuliani (#1 in 2004). If they’re venal, corrupt or obnoxious, they’re game.
This year, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg wears the loathsome crown for his role in bringing the Republican National Convention to town and his dishonest promotion of the west side stadium. Other names on the 2005 list include Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and the Olsen twins.
“New York Press has always been a combative publication,” said New York Press publisher Chris Rohland. “But in this annual list the gloves really come off. It has become one of best read and most talked about issues in the paper’s 17 year history.”
