The Paper, an alternative weekly out of Grand Rapids, Mich., has ceased publication according to several informed sources. Publisher Jim O'Neill could not be reached for comment but Mark Hanzlik, executive director of the Alternative Weekly Network, says that O'Neill told him last month via e-mail that the paper is "retooling to return as a monthly".

In addition, several residents of Grand Rapids say that they haven't seen the paper distributed since early-to-mid March. The weekly's office number and fax have been disconnected and its website is no longer up and running.

The Paper was founded in 1997 and admitted into AAN the following summer along with five other alternative weeklies. At the time, the AAN Admissions Committee deemed The Paper, "the most encouraging of the new applicants."
