Free Press Advocate to Speak at Convention

As the country says goodbye to what may have been the most secretive presidential administration in history, AAN Convention attendees will get to hear one expert's take on what we can expect from the Obama administration in terms of open government and press freedom issues.

Lucy Dalglish, the executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP), will be this year's First Amendment Lunch speaker. Dalglish, a former journalist who is a member of the National Freedom of Information Act Hall of Fame, has headed up RCFP since 2000. She will address issues ranging from recent changes in the administration of FOIA, the movement towards a federal shield law for reporters and whether the media will have the financial wherewithal to take advantage of whatever expansiveness in transparency we may experience under the Obama administration.

"I work with Lucy on Sunshine in Government Initiative, our free-press coalition," AAN executive director Richard Karpel says. "Her knowledge of how things get done in this town on open-government issues is unparalleled."

The First Amendment Lunch will be held on Saturday, June 27, the final day of the 32nd Annual AAN Convention in Tucson.
