Changing of the Guard at Boston's Weekly Dig
Growing Weekly Switches Music Editors

BOSTON – December 16, 2004 – Joe Keohane, editor of Boston’s Weekly Dig, announced today that music editor Luke O’Neil is leaving the paper for which he worked for two years as music editor and several moons as a books and music writer. Taking his place will be Michael Brodeur.
O’Neil, who by night is also the singer of local rock phenomenon The Good North, will be leaving to pursue freelance- and rock-related activities. His writing will continue to appear in the Dig.
“It’ll be sad to see him go,” said Keohane. “He’s a great, smart guy and a good presence around the office, even when he’s stealing your lunch out of the fridge or opening the windows on freezing cold days like a bastard.”
The Dig’s publisher Jeff Lawrence added, “I can’t thank him enough for the job he’s done over the last couple of years. He’s really a part of the family and we’re going to miss him.”
Michael Brodeur, O’Neil’s replacement, is a well-known and well-respected figure around town in both literary and music circles. An accomplished musician, Brodeur toured for six years with The Wicked Farleys and presently plays in Certainly, Sir, a dance-pop outfit that has released records in the UK, Japan and the US.
Additionally, Brodeur, who holds a masters degree in poetry, which he himself admits is largely a ticket to penury, published BOTH, a literary journal which organized readings all over the city. Before being snatched up by the Dig he made his living writing about music and arts, and teaching writing at Emerson College and Wentworth Institute.
Brodeur sees the “Dig's upcoming relaunch as the perfect opportunity to reinvent the way people discover music in Boston. Our job will be to give our readers unique perspectives on the vast array of scenes and stages in and out of town. Most importantly, though, we're here to give you something worth reading.”
