It may not be as flashy as a protest or as visible as an encampment, but Occupy Greensboro is hunkering down to fight a prolonged struggle. With a combination of veteran organizers and freshly minted activists, the eight-month-old group has dug its heels into its regular meeting space at Glenwood Coffee & Books to take on a spread of causes, especially around energy production and housing foreclosures.
The trees are Occupied! Occupy Eugene has teamed up with the Cascadia Forest Defenders for an arboreal Occupation in the Northwest. The groups are Occupying the trees in the city and on federal forestland.
The good news: When the dust clears from the recession, analysts expect that most newspapers will be poised for a recovery. The bad: It's largely because they've fired at least a quarter of their newsroom, and the business model is still badly broken.
