2 Live Crew's double platinum album As Nasty As They Wanna Be was ruled legally obscene by a U.S. District Judge in 1990, making it illegal to sell in three South Florida counties. After performing four songs from the album in a Hollywood, Fla. nightclub, Campbell and two other band members were arrested and put on trial for violating obscenity laws. A jury acquitted the group of all charges, and two years later, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit overturned the ruling which found the album obscene. "It apparently was the first time any federal appellate court had been asked to rule whether a musical composition was obscene," the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported at the time.
Campbell has been writing columns for Miami New Times since February 2010, where he shares his "crazy-ass views on current events." Jim DeFede — a reporter for CBS News in Miami and certified by New Times editor Chuck Strouse as the "most entertaining man alive" — will lead a Q&A with Campbell.
Optional event, pre-registration required.

We'll be departing Friday night, July 12, following the party. Exact time to be determined.
First stop: Tootsie's Cabaret. The mother ship of all strip clubs in south Florida. Located inside a 74,000 square foot warehouse, Tootsie's was recently ranked the number one gentleman's establishment by Complex magazine. In addition to the main area, the grind rooms, and champagne rooms, Tootsie's also houses a sports bar, Knockers, and a scaled replica of a NYC subway car for special friction dances. If you're feeling like a baller, Tootsie's VIP lounge offers a panoramic unobstructed view of the main stage. Oh and more than 200 dancers of course.
Second stop: King of Diamonds. The spot made famous by Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, and Floyd Mayweather, the KOD is Miami's hip-hop fueled pleasure palace. Founded by strip club pioneer Jack Galardi, King of Diamonds is the second largest strip club after Tootsie's, featuring a sex toy shop, a barber shop, and a hidden basketball court. Here you'll get to witness a monsoon of dollar bills raining on more than a 100 dancers who work the pole like astronauts training in zero gravity rooms.
Third and final stop: Scarlett's Cabaret in Hallandale Beach. Not as opulent or grand as Tootsie's and KOD, but a great bar to end the night. Friendly bartenders and wait staff. Strippers in LED costumes. And just a fun, laidback atmosphere.
Fine print: you're on your own for transportation, so bring cash to share taxis...and for other things that might require a supply of bills.
Attendance is free, but a $15 ticket buys you two drink tickets and some snacks.
